Al Capone left a legacy behind as the greatest and most feared American gangster

to ever live. The movie business exploded with countless gangster and mafia movies, many of them about or referencing to Al Capone. He had become the pinnacle of the American gangster icon. He also appeared in a number of new pieces of gangster literature.

In The Godfather, one of the most iconic American gangster literature pieces (also a movie) notes that Al Capone is an ally of the rival family to the main characters family. Capone sends hit men to attack the main character's family, but they're intercepted. Capone is recognized as a major player in the crime world.

Rod Steiger (left), played the role of infamous criminal in a 1950's series Al Capone. The program documented Capone's life and actions throughout his life. At first, Steiger refused the role of Capone, he felt that he would be glorifying the gangster age and life.

Al Capone has even made his way into the music world. The song (left) by British group, Paper Lace, reached number one out of a hundred in the 1970's. It was based on a fictional shootout between Capone's Outfit and the Chicago Police.
